The Southwest Conference on Disability is moving back to the newly renovated Albuquerque Convention Center!

The Convention Center is located between the Rio Grande river and the Sandia Mountains, in the heart of vibrant downtown Albuquerque. The Center just completed Phase I of its $20 million dollar renovation.

Doubletree Hotel

The conference hotel is the Doubletree Hotel which is connected to the Albuquerque Convention Center by an underground walkway.

A limited number of rooms are available at the conference rate of $109.  These rates are valid for three days before and three days after the conference. To receive conference rates call the hotel directly at (505) 247-3344 by Monday, September 16, 2015 and tell them you are making a reservation for the Southwest Disability Conference.

Please note that the conference block of rooms may be filled before the cutoff date.

Make your hotel reservations early!

To reserve a room with a roll-in shower, please call the Conference Coordinator at (505) 272-6231. The hotel cannot release these rooms.

Seventh Annual Film Festival: Reel Ability

During the Conference theatrical releases and award-winning documentaries will be shown, followed in some cases, by conversations with the director, producer or star.

Artists in Residence Program


Nationally-recognized artists with disabilities demonstrate their work during the three days of the conference, lead hands-on workshops and breakout sessions. The 2014 Arts in Residence will be announced August 10th.

Artisan's Showcase

Artisans with disabilities display and sell their original work in the Conference Exhibit Area. The 2015 Artisans will be announced August 10th.

Disability Culture in America: An Exhibition

This Exhibit of Artifacts documents evolving views of disability culture in American society.

Conference Awards

The Southwest Conference on Disability periodically recognizes individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to aspects of disability. The National Distinguished Disability Research Award is given on an annual basis. The remaining awards are presented periodically when warranted.
