The Early Childhood Psychology Internship Track is offered through the University of New Mexico Center for Development and Disability (UNM CDD) in collaboration with the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship program overseen by the UNM Department of Psychiatry.
The EC track offers a psychology pre-doctoral internship that emphasizes infant and early child mental health assessment and intervention, as well as experience conducting developmental, diagnostic and specialized evaluations for children birth to three years old in an interdisciplinary team model.
Interns also have the opportunity to gain experience providing diagnostic evaluations for preschool and young school-age children when an Autism Spectrum Disorder is in question, and in providing services to rural communities in the state via outreach clinics. Most intervention services are provided in family homes.
The intern in the EC track spends half his or her clinical time at the UNM CDD working with our intervention and evaluation programs, and half conducting outpatient psychotherapy and psychological assessment at Children’s Psychiatric Center – Outpatient Services.
